Great pre-testing material

Once again the CIW Bibles are worth the price! Everything you need to get you through the test and pass. Thanks a ton

great book!

After being unimpressed with some of the stale CIW materialavailable, I was pleasantly surprised with the CIW E-CommerceBible.The book is well suited to self-study, it treats the materialin depth, and yet weaves in exercises and labs to keep youinterested. The labs give you a reasonably "hands-on" feelfor the material. You're expected to have a Windows 2000Professional or Windows 98 PC on the net for the labs. The book comes with a Boson practice exam and a CDwith various packages. My only gripe is that the three werenot as well integrated as I would have liked. The practiceexams weren't great, but after taking and passing the CIWtest, I'd have to say they are as good as the real thing. It's important to learn the CIW exam way of thinking, which doesnot necessarily match the real world. The packages on the CD did not match what the book expected. For example, it's not necessary to have Winzip to unzip theE-business software on the CD, but the book believes it is.The Apache source code package on the CD won't install, but you can download it from apache.org. The errata sheet atThe book did the job for me. After a read-through, the labs, and the practice exams, I passed with 88%.

An example on how self- paced study books should be written

This book delivered me an 84% pass in the exam through self-paced study. This was the only resource I used other than the Internet. An excellent feature of this book is that it is crammed full of real e-commerce applications that allows you to simulate an online business to get the hang of what online commerce is all about. You will learn about :Creating online cataloguesShopping carts Shipping scenarios Payment modelsThese are all essential elements that have to be experienced from the other side to comprehend how a successful online store should be constructed. The exam question-testing engine included in the CD is the best I have come across. To guarantee maximum success in passing the exam and or comprehending E-commerce principles make sure you follow the authors "How to use this book section".This publication will feature in a prominent position on my bookcase as a comprehensive companion "oracle" to all real world E-Commerce matters for some years to come.

Prepares you well to be confused

This book did a great job of presenting the material covered on the exam, and was key to my passing the test. The hardest part of the exam was what had frustrated me about the book, confusing use of terminology. I felt that a lot of the practice test questions were overly confusing and not relevant to knowing the material. But upon taking the exam, I found that they were true to the CIW format, which is also confusing to an extreme. The book guided me around what I knew was really true, to get the test questions correct according to CIW point of view.More than worth the price.

A Great Primer and a chiropractic re-alignment for e-biz

Like most umbrella e-terms, 'e-commerce' begs for a sensible explanation--both in its parts and its whole--and this is the book to give it. What is great about the Minnicks' book is that it illuminates, without hype, how web based commerce revolutionizes business by putting mass marketing and mass exposure within the reach of small to medium-sized businesses, if--and this is the big if that the book so solidly outlines--if those businesses have done their homework. That homework includes customer privacy and security issues, taxes, and knowing the third parties on whom your site will be dependent--people like your internet service provider and payment gateway services.I'm happy to see this thorough, planning oriented approach to setting up your business on the web--especially because it puts a check on gold rush, build-it-and-they-will-come mentality that's dogged online business recently. And it is able to give this reality check while providing grounded hope for what a well planned business can do on the web. This book is like a chiropractic re-alignment for e-commerce; it puts the parts back where they belong, and where the re-integrated whole can work the way it was meant to.
