Book Overview

Christian Basilicas by Orazio Marucchi is a comprehensive study of the history, architecture, and art of early Christian basilicas. The book explores the development of the basilica form, which was used for both secular and religious purposes in ancient Rome, and its adaptation by early Christians for their places of worship. Marucchi provides a detailed analysis of the elements of basilican architecture, including the nave, aisles, apse, and transept, as well as the decoration and furnishings of these spaces. He also discusses the liturgical practices and rituals that took place in these buildings, and the role of the basilica in the early Christian community. The book includes numerous illustrations and photographs of basilicas from around the world, as well as plans and diagrams to help readers understand the complex architecture of these buildings.
