Set in the late 1870's, this delightful book is especially interesting for those of us unfamiliar with the Great Lakes area. Similar to Little House books, many chapters reveal distinct aspects of the area, history, or lifestyle of the times: Chicago fire of 1871, making maple syrup, mining, fishing, weather volitility on Lake Superior, etc. Makes for wholesome, charming, reading.

This book is very well written and stays interesting throughout. My five year old daughter recieved this as a gift from a family member who lives in Michigan and once we started reading it we couldn't put it down. It was a great starting point for my daughter to learn about different areas of the united states as well. Great book, perfect for all ages.
