Chakras: Energy Centers of the Body and Mind The word chakra comes from Sanskrit and means "wheel" or "disc". According to Hindu and yogic tradition, chakras are centers of vital energy located along the spine, which connect the physical body with the subtle body, or the spiritual dimension. In total, there are seven main chakras, each associated with a specific color, an endocrine gland, a psycho-physical aspect. Vital energy, called prana, flows through the chakras in a continuous flow. When the chakras are open and balanced, energy flows freely and the person feels in harmony on a physical, mental and spiritual level. The author has a degree in Philosophy and is a Yoga teacher.
