A most enjoyable story

From The Long and the Short of It Romance Reviews: CEREMONY OF DECEPTION captured my attention and kept me up until late into the night. Jannifer Hoffman engages all the senses and touches deep emotions as she weaves an enthralling tale about love, not sought after but found, in the rowdy, untamed, and often cruel times of the Wyoming Territory infancy in the 1800's. Jessie (Neeva) McGerrett embodies the spirit of resilience that sustains her as she survives a massacre when she is only four years old, flourishes as she grows to puberty with the Shoshones, then matures and learns through her teen years with Tim (Pa) McGerrett. After Pa McGerrett is killed, this spirit helps her find her way in the sometime-questionable civilized world of the white man. The subtle as well as the not-so-subtle events that entangle Jessie's life with Scott Cordell's of Cheyenne, Wyoming becomes a love story not to be missed. Some crude and some gentle, sensual happenings bind these two people, albeit unwillingly at times, into an enduring need for each other. CEREMONY OF DECEPTION shows the greed, the desire for power, and the prejudice that threatened to destroy the good that so many people strived to establish in the untamed west of America during the 1800's. Jannifer Hoffman does a magnificent job of creating a tapestry that depicts the beautiful lands and the people (both Indian and White), as she weaves this spellbinding tale with the golden thread of love that shines through as the reader vicariously experiences the happenings that culminate in a HAPPILY-EVER-AFTER for Jessie and her true love Scott. A big thanks to Jannifer Hoffman for a most enjoyable story. Read this review and more at http://www.longandshortreviews.com

Reviewed by Virginia H. September 30, 2008 "...a treat for everyone who likes historicals and romantic suspense..." Ceremony of Deception by Jannifer Hoffman is a wonderfully written historical romance. It has romance, mystery, suspense, and danger. And it will surely keep your attention from start to finish! The story's about a girl named Jessie McGerrett who was raised by the Shoshone Indians after her parents were killed. She lived with them until Tim McGerrett took her to live with him and to learn the ways of the white man--to read and talk properly. They forged a strong bond, and Jessie soon called him "pa". Later, he was murdered by a scoundrel called Tom Keel who was after his money. As Jessie sets out to find and punish Tim's killers, she meets Scott Cordell...a handsome man who is also out to find Tom Keel for selling guns to the Indians. She tricks Scott into an "Indian marriage" so that she can go with him and Buck Mallory to Cheyenne, Wyoming to find the murdering Tom. Scott believes the young lady is nothing but an annoyance and wants to be rid of her...but he soon discovers there's more to her than meets the eye. The story is full of wonderful surprises. Like Jessie's first time in a town and her first time wearing dresses. It's all very humorous that you'll truly love. I find this book a treat for everyone who likes historicals and romantic suspense, and I would highly recommend it for a wonderful read. rated 4 of 4 stars
