If one is researching the history of cavalry, one can findbetter books. If one is looking for eye candy in terms of cavalry, especially uniforms, this book is great. One of the authors (if I recollect correctly) drew and painted some of the illustrations and these are very good. The authors have included several paintings by Russian arists, who judging by the style were contemporaries of Edouard Detaille, Meissonier, et al. And these are excellent. In addition, the authors have an east European bias, so there is something of an emphasis on Austrian, Polish, and Turkish cavalry, which is unique and refreshing. The book is worth the price.
