As a Staff Sergeant, and a Cavalry Scout serving in the US Army, I can personally say this book is the closest thing there is to being there. The story itself is well written and many of the thoughts the characters have , I have had, many times myself. This book was written by someone who, has the title of "Cavalry Scout". So if you want to see the inner workings of a Cavalry Platoon and personnel, then this is a must read book.

"Cavalry Scout" blends action, tactics and strong characters to create a compelling world of war in the near future. Thomas Mitchem is a strong hero, a man of both book learning and military know-how, who is suddenly in the middle of combat between the U.S. and revived Persian forces. A good read for its writing style, realism and memorable characters.
