Seventeen-year-old Alden Clare has plenty of responsibilities weighing on him: an ailing father, a restless older brother, and an impatient girlfriend. When his brother, Grant, argues with their father, Grant takes off, leaving Alden to deal with the old man's health and the homestead mortgage by himself. Alden's girlfriend, Claudette, decides she doesn't want to wait any longer, so she goes to live with Alden's friend, Cash McGinley. Before long, Alden learns that Cash has joined a band of ruffians, and then Cash turns up dead. Soon, there are more killings, and suddenly the angry gang is focused on Alden. Alden isn't sure why but he needs to find out quickly because they're coming after him-and their leader wants a showdown.
