This book is one of a kind, as Capability Brown does not particularly have a lot of material written on him. It is an overall short read, but the amount of information in it is phenomenal. Hinde uses multiple sources, ranging from contemporary books, to letters, to bank account statements. All of the knowledge that is needed to appreciate Brown is contained within this book, written in a manner anyone can approach. I read it for an introductory knowledge of Brown for a thesis paper and it became my main source for information. Highly recommended to anyone studying Brown, landscaping, or Manor Houses in the 18th century. It is an all-encompassing book that is simple to read and understand.
