The Bible on Canyon De Chelly

This book Canyon de Chelly, its people and rock art is a powerful resource and fact book. Mr Grant, an expert in rock art composed this book into four parts: The Spectacular Canyon, The Canyon Dwellers, The Canyon Explorers and The Canyon Rock Art, with supplementary material on the survey of Canyon de Chelly Rock art sites. This book covers a long period of time and history, ranging from settlement in the area in pre-Columbian period to Spanish, and American rulings. Reader will be able to understand Navajo traditions and culture especially the history of atrocities. This is the authority guide book for Navajo tribe and Canyon de Chelly. It will refresh your memory if you have visited before or seen the movie "Mackenna's Gold" on the Spider Rock.

Great Book

This was a great book! it was very well written, so much in-depth information with many illustration; an older book so not pictures are black and white. Prior my trip I ordered three books on canyon de chilly and this one I could not put down.

Good work for those visiting the Canyon

I bought this book because i was traveling to Canyon de Chelly and i wanted something that would help me understand and enjoy my trip there. The book was really good as to the places you are going to visit and the history behind it.It also helped me found and understand a lot of the petroglyphs that are scattered around the canyon. This book also helped me understand what was the relation of the native americans and the canyon.Great book to have handy if you are going to visit the Canyon.

THE definitive book on Canyon de Chelly

Of all the books I have seen on Canyon de Chelly, this is hands-down the best. Far from being a compact travel guide, it is a full-sized paperback textbook. (It was so informative, I stuffed it into my suitcase for my visit to Canyon de Chelly). The book gives a detailed overview of all aspects of the canyon, from geologic formation to prehistoric canyon dwellers and then proceeds into the present. Major historic events are covered too. Lots of intricate pen-and-ink illustrations as well as photographs. It's an academic piece of literature, but I do not want to scare off potential readers, because it is also a riveting and fun read!
