Antisocial, dorky boy seeks fun-loving, sexy vampire for blood-sucking and transforming into her minion. Nanakusa is a vampire. That's okay with human Ko. He wants to be one too. But transformation doesn't come that easily... One sleepless night, Ko slips out to walk the streets. Life after dark is a revelation When flirtatious Nazuna invites Ko to spend the night at her place in an abandoned building, he's stoked But then he awakens to kisses on his neck with a little too much bite to them... Is it just the delicious taste of his blood that makes her meet him night after night for late-night adventures, conversation and...naps? Or something else? Then, when a cute girl from Ko's past shows up and competes for his attention, his budding relationship with the undead is put to the test
4 1/2* stars.
The insomniac and withdrawn Ko with the lively, albeit undead, Nazuna is a perfect pairing. Both pushing and pulling each other on an adventure to have some fun while the night rolls on. And, as a bonus, they try understand their feelings a little more too. And what's up with the word "love" making Nazuna blush!?
There is a sweet undertone to the series, but majority wise it's really laid back giving off a minimal spooky tone since the nighttime/darkness and a vampire is involved. Folks who likes Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, I believe would like Call of the Night too, it has that same nonchalant air to it that makes it relaxing to read, but still engaging.
Also the art is quite nice! I'm not sure why, but it gives off a nostalgic vibe, even though the time is set in the present. The cityscapes and backgrounds are particularly detailed and pretty. Also the cover, spine, and back cover are beautiful in my opinion, I love the starry night style.
I definitely recommend this series, and fans of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, definitely check this out, you won't regret it!
