These are Fast Stories which are not much longer than a phone call. When my kids were very young I would tell them a story in their bunk beds and hope for the best. They were always stories I made up out of whole cloth, thin air, in the dark. And if it worked, when I got to, "And that's how. .," they would say, "Ok," and go to sleep. A story doesn't have to be long, or dramatic, or scary as a shark. It has to be complete. Kids are smart. Now I tell stories to myself. The majority in some way have an autobiographical slant to them, but in their writing, their style, I'm still working with whole cloth, thin air, no prep, and for that matter, I'm still in the dark.
