Jack Molloy goes by the name of Jammer at the Vegas casino where he hosts muckamucks and sports stars for debauched evenings in Sin City. When arranging escorts (code word: nannies) for married men,... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I know of Mike Lupica from my faithful viewing of ESPN's The Sports Reporters. I have often been annoyed by Mr. Lupica's apparent need to glow in more than his share of the spotlight. I once remarked to my wife that I wished Mike Lupica had his own show so I wouldn't have to watch him. Well, now I have a new opinion. Lupica's Bump and Run reads like an Elmore Leonard novel: sharp, witty, and flat-out entertaining. Thanks, Mr. Lupica, for twelve hours of pure fun.

When I first heard of this book on Imus I expected it to be entertaining and funny but it exceeded my expectations which were already high. This is definitely the funniest sports novel I have ever read and it is at least Semi-Tough for the 2000's and as good as or better than others like Roy Blount Jr. in this field. I found it hilarious, engaging and a black humor look into not only the NFL but US pro sports in general. My only disappointment is that as a sportwriter Lupica missed a few important details he threw into his story. He seems to love the Saints for some reason and credits them with the famous photo of a bloodied and helmetless Y.A.Tittle kneeling on the turf (it was against the Steelers in Pitt Stadium) and says that Edward Bennett Williams bought them instead of the Redskins. Other than those two dropped passes, this was a true winner.

I didn't care about football but I started reading my boyfriend's copy of this book and I never gave it back. I loved the characters and since reading this novel, I have started watching football on TV, just to see if it was as entertaining as Bump and Run. So far, I find the book much more entertaining than the sport.

This is unquestionably the most hilarious sports related novel I have ever read. I tried, but was unsuccessful in putting this book down....a gut wrenching laugh out loud story. Bump and Run gives the reader a back stage pass to the inner sanctum of an NFL franchise. Lupica takes us for an incredible ride through team ownership and provides us with a fascinating glimpse at many of today's hair raising issues....you will shudder. Don't miss this "must read"....it is fabulous!
Bump and Run

I just finished Mike Lupica's book, Bump and Run and I can honestly say it is one of the funniest, sassiest books I have read in a long time. This guy can write in a way that you can hear the voices of the characters. Being a woman I particularly enjoyed the toughness and fiestiness of the female characters. It was the kind of book that demanded you read it in its entirety as soon as possible, the pacing was great. It was hilarious and at the same time you couldn't help but feel you were getting the inside view of the NFL..all I can say is when is his next book coming out??
