Taming of the Shrew... Retold.

I really wanted to give this 4 1/2 stars for the silly ending. However, how can anyone miss that this is a delicious retelling of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew. I wish more was taken from Shakespeare. It could have had a better ending, but I enjoyed every moment of this book, with the hero and heroine at each others throats right up until the end. You have to like Taming of the Shrew to like this kind of story telling. Perhaps Hearts Aflame did a better job of it, but this is still delicious. I won't retell the story, but will discuss a few key points in the book. The shrew, Jessie, slaps and punches Chase, before and after he asks her to marry him... what was he suppose to do? She was always physically assaulting him every chance she got and one more punch and slap to his face was enough to justify the harsh spanking she got. I realize to some, that was distasteful, but she loved humiliating and hitting him every chance she got and she never hits him again after that scene. It takes a man like Chase to tame this screw and her mother seems to know this. The ending should have been something totally different and you have to like taming a shrew to like this book. If you don't, then don't read it. The only other part that was silly was the so called shotgun wedding. Not believable. Still, Chase has to overpower Jessie to tame her and tame her he does... to a point! In later books, he lets her be herself and does not want to ruin her spirit. Outsiders think she wears the pants in the family, but what they don't realize is that she wears them, as long as he permits her to. They are a hot couple and this story is sexually steaming hot as well. The whole trip to Spain seems only a way to make this couple come into money and is a silly ending that doesn't fit with the rest of the story at all. The fact that they don't declare their love until she is giving birth is silly also. Other than that, most of the book had me hot under the collar. Lastly, Chase also has to use his thinking brain quite a bit to come to terms with this out of control girl.

my favorite

i have read several of JL books but this was the first-the one that got me hooked. I have re-read this one a hundred times! Yes Jesse is a spoiled brat but she is a very round character. the whole story makes me think of a romance story the way it should be written.

Wonderful!

I'm a big fan of Johanna Lindsey and I read any of her books that I can get ahold of. This book lives up to all her others. It's wonderfully writen, funny, and very sweet. I just hope that soon we'll see a book for Jeremy Malory! ^_^

A must read for romance lovers

I Have been reading Lindsey for many years now. I have read most of her books. My favorite will always be Hearts Aflame. I strongly urge others to read this book. It is full of rebellious passion and in the midst of a historical background. I introduced her books to many of my friends and relatives and they have been buying her novels since. A good wonderful feeling after reading a Lindsey. I assure you.

WONERFULLY LINDSEY!!!

I own nearly every Johanna Lindsey novel. And she never disappoints me. This book, like the rest captures the wonderfully world of romance. I truely believe Lindsey is one of the best romance writers ever.
