Bosie and the Orange Cooler: And Other Stories
These five stories have unique themes and narratives and reflect diverse characters and settings. These stories explore human experiences, relationships, crime, love, redemption and personal transformation.
"The Black Trunk" is set back in the Victorian times when Liverpool was an expanding sea port, and has the flavour of the supernatural that projects the reader into the future of the past.
"The Salesman and the Present" explores the trying time in life termed "midlife crisis" and what it can do in the pursuit of love, loss and what damage criminality does to human nature.
"Mercedes Mary," has a brain damaged by no fault of her own, which leaves her to contend with after-effects that include guile, deception, longing, seduction, and manipulation, all in the cause of mutual benefit.
"A Long Journey" explores the problems that reunions can produce, as the skeletons of people's lives that had been confined to closets and thought to have been long buried are found not to have been forgotten. Betrayal, fraud, addiction and their effects on the lives of a small community show how fragile and fleeting and fragile are life's pleasures.
"Bosie and the Orange Cooler" delves deep and explores human failings in a community that has for years been trusting and unsuspecting. The story intertwines themes of grief, healing, forgiveness and artistic expression that leads from despair and addiction to hope and renewal, recovery and acceptance.
