Some call it genes.
Some call it blood.
Whichever truth you hold dear, Nicky and his younger brother Johnny seemed destined
to be criminals.
The two boys were born in Jersey City and raised in the crime-ridden Duncan Avenue
projects. Nicky, a fully-fledged junkie at the age of 13, did whatever he had to do to feed
his habit. Though he had murder on his resume, Nicky was sentenced to 10 years at
Rikers Island for theft with a handgun. Johnny idolized his older brother and assembled
a small band of juvenile delinquents.
Nicky requested to have no visitors, so the two brothers corresponded through letters.
Nicky began to read voraciously in order to better himself while Johnny sunk deeper
and deeper into his own career as a criminal. Half Italian, the other half Irish, Johnny
could never be a "made" man, but it didn't stop him from becoming intimately involved
with the local cosa nostra.
