This self-published book is what is known as "regional history." In this case, however, it deserves a good deal more attention than it is likely to recieve outside of Oregon. Most modern Americans probably aren't aware that the Japanese did, in fact, bomb the American mainland during World War II. A single plane, launched from a submarine, bombed Oregon. This well-researched book is the story of that attack. It is also the story of what happened afterwards...long afterwards...when the pilot who bombed Oregon came to Brookings and became both a crusader for peace and something of a celebrity. The book reads quickly and is well written.
