Brilliant!

Brilliant! This apocalyptic fable challenges the cutting edge of philisophical thought of not only this century's great thinkers. All that food for thought condensed in an understandable and delightfully humorous way. Coming from the tropics, I've always detested roaches. After reading Bob Bridges, I'm going out to find a cockroach--a perfect companion to usher in the new millenium. A fun book.

Farce with a bite

If you like the social satire of such writers as Kurt Vonnegut and Joseph Heller, you'll love Bob Bridges: An Apocalyptic Fable. Penny Perkins has woven a story that will remind you of the necessity for good stewardship of a very small planet while it intrigues you with a puzzle to be solved and a small cast of quirky characters who will remind you not only of our species' genetic shortcomings, but also of our inherent strengths. There is a seriousness in the novel's purpose that underlies its humor, however, and no matter how much we think the fate of the Earth is tied up in our own peculiar way of living, it will continue even when we are gone. An apocalypse happens only to humans-to nature, it's just a dividing line between one era and the next. Don't miss this great read that will get your mind wrapped around the most cosmic of questions!

I now embrace cockroaches! (almost)

Okay, I might be exaggerating when I say "embrace." But I must admit to becoming more tolerant towards our 6-legged friends after reading Bob Bridges. This in itself is quite impressive since roaches & palmetto bugs were the bane of my existance for 7 years when I lived in southern Georgia.I am in awe of Penny Perkins' first novel. Bob Bridges is an intelligent, creative, thought-provoking read. I couldn't put it down! (Not even for a cup of hot chocolate!)Please keep 'em coming, Penny!

I loved the way this book made me think

Wish I could come up with a criticism, but I cannot. I loved it. I loved the way the author was so playful with words, I loved the story, I even loved the font choices, I loved Cock (this is not easy for me to type), I loved trying to figure out how in the name of God Penny Perkins came up with the concept... Anyway, most of all I loved the way this book made me think. Made me ponder. Made me look at things. Although I always knew that the simple things were the most important (thanks, Ma), from time to time we all get sidetracked and opt to look the other way and accept mediocrity (or worse). For the time being at least, BOB BRIDGES has put me back on track. I am kind of a weak person though, so if you get a chance, Dear Author, can you put out another novel?

lots of creativity on display

Bob Bridges arrived the other day and I have read it -- with much pleasure! I very much enjoyed the creativity displayed in conveying his random thoughts, recollections and dreams,-- in short, I thought the author used a nice mix of formats to develop the action.
