In this Ralph Compton western, a man discovers that Bluff City is the place to find one's fortune--or one's grave... Bluff City is a prosperous silver-mining town-and a place of opportunity for those... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Bluff City is a silver-mining town with plenty of hardworking citizens to exploit, and two men mean to do just that. Harve Baker, the wealthiest man in the territory, offers irresistible vices to anyone able to afford them. Outlaw Jesse Stark leads a gang of desperadoes on a violent spree of robberies, but he manages to stay one step ahead of the law. When Clay Adams rides into town it isn't long before he has a score to settle with both of them... The above blurb really doesn't hint at the depths of this novel, true revenge is part of the plot as is the age old struggle of man and woman trying to understand each other, but it's the deeper question of whether a person can change who they are if they try hard enough; can they bury their past or will it rise up again and destroy all they've worked hard to change? As to be expected from a story by David Robbins this tale moves along at great pace making for a difficult to put down book. The characters are all believable and the twists and turns of the plot make for an enthralling read. And was the change possible? That's an answer you'll have to find out for yourself by reading this book that should appeal to all western fans everywhere. Recommended.
This City Is No Bluff !!

Neville Blaine is a haunted man, haunted by a childhood facial disfigurement that gives him his nickname of "Crooked Nose", he rides into Whistler's Flat with nothing on his mind but a drink in the nearest saloon but fate intervenes in the shape of an old adversary names Jesse Stark who along with his gang decide to rob the local bank. Blaine decides to try and stop the raid, a decision that will change his life forever when he is shot and left for dead by Stark after a brutal beating by the bank robber. Remarkably all this happens just in the first few chapters!!, the book gets even better after that as a man gets a second chance in life and a chance to redeem himself but can a man ever change his character even if he changes his identity?. This was a terrific read with an absolutely gripping plot that had loads of twists and turns, bags of action, dramatic and at times funny dialogue, fantastic characters and the eternal battle between man and woman thrown in for good measure. The big nod to a DC superhero in the plot was a particular delight as I'm a massive fan of the man with a "S" on his chest !! - A must read IMHO, David Robbins is an absolutely brilliant writer :)
