Blue Star Rapture

"Blue star Rapture" takes place at Heavens Gate,which is a big farm that consists of 2 camps. One being Full Court basketball camp, which the majority of the book takes place at. The other camp is a holy roller by the name of camp Shaddai. The main character T.J. is a 17 year old who is attending full court camp for one major reason. To help his friend Tyron get a basketball scholarship. In the book Tyron is not very smart and T.J. is the only person who really understands him, which is critical when talking to scouts and coaches. T.J. also feels if he helps the scouts with Tyron maybe he will be rewarded with some sort of scholarship or grant. T.J. also has some unexpected problems when he gets to camp such as this girl Luann.Luann is a teenager at camp Shaddai who gets knocked up by a strange man and decided to turn her life over to god. The only problem with this is the people at the camp dont look out for what's best, They follow whatever they believe god is trying to tell them even if it could turn into tradegy for other people. Overall "Blue Star Rapture" was a terrific book and i highly suggest that you go out and buy this book. It's a book for all ages and I hope you enjoy it.

Blue Star Rapture is a story about a boy, TJ, who is quite manipulative for his age. TJ is a high school junior who goes off to basketball camp with his slow-witted friend Tyron. At camp, TJ meets a girl named LuAnn and learns some valuable life lessons. I thought this was a generally good book. Being from Illinois, I enjoyed reading references to Illinois namesakes such as the cities of Peoria and Chicago and the Chicago newspapers: the Tribune and the Sun-Times. However, the book seemed to have drifted from its main theme towards the end. It appeared the author didn't really know what to write about after TJ and Tyron left basketball camp. The story didn't seem to wrap up in a logical and realistic manner like the rest of the book. Bottom line, I enjoyed the book overall, but the ending could've been better.

good book, very emotional

Blue Star Rapture is a pretty good book. It tells the lives of a couple of high school boys, T.J. and Tyron, who are good at basketball. The main character T.J. is kind of like Tyron's shepherd because Tyron is a supreme basketball player but is very slow academically. They go to this huge basketball camp where T.J. meets this girl from across the bridge at a church camp. It is a very good story, very exciting, although it does get confusing in a few spots. I recommend this book to all athletes because it describes the drive and determination it takes to compete with the best of the best in sports, as well as in life.

Great sports oriented book for reluctant high school readers

A "skinny" book that librarians will press into the hands of students who need to read a book. This one will be read and enjoyed by those interested in sports and in relationships. The characters in Blue Star Rapture are well developed. Readers will care about what happens to them and in the choices they make for themselves. Bennett had some fun, by dropping in literary references that adults and sophisticated readers will appreciate, but non-readers may not even notice. If read aloud in a classroom, these liteary allusions can be discussed and illuminated. The rough language is commonplace for high school students,out of earshot of adults. Some librarians and teachers may squirm due to the street language. It will not shock all high school students, that's for sure. This is Bennett's most up-beat book to date. The main characters are basketball players, taking off to summer basketball camp. TJ comes to a fork in the road and makes some decisions. His coming of age is an ethical catharsis. Although he makes his decision alone, it is based on the morals and ethics formed over the years and on the relationships in his life. Submitted by a high school librarian
