Book Overview

A blood-pounding tale of an unorthodox alliance between a vampire and an exorcist

"Bloody" Mary, a vampire with a death wish, has spent the past 400 years chasing down a modern-day exorcist named Maria who is thought to have inherited "The Blood of Maria" and is the only one who can kill Mary. To Mary's dismay, Maria doesn't know how to kill vampires. Desperate to die, Mary agrees to become Maria's bodyguard until Maria can find a way to kill him.

"Bloody" Mary is not your typical vampire. He can withstand sunlight, holds a reflection in mirrors, refuses to drink blood--and wants 17-year-old student and priest Maria to kill him. But to Mary's dismay, Maria doesn't know how to kill vampires. Desperate to die, Mary agrees to become Maria's bodyguard until Maria can find a way to kill him at last.

A vampire in a cat hoodie and a young surly priest...

Mary, a frail priest, constantly hunted by vampires due to his ancestors' special power-giving blood, is protected by the very thing that tries to kill him, Bloody Mary, yet another vampire. But Mary is a bit different than your average vampire, namely that he has little memory of his past, and that he begs Maria to kill him. The deal is simple; Mary becomes Maria's bodyguard in exchange for Maria learning how to harness his ancestral power to kill vampires and then kill Mary. Sounds fair, doesn't it? First off, Mary is absolutely freaking adorable. His little cat ear hoodie, dark eyebags, and child-like demeanor make me want to hug and protect him and take him away from that prick Maria. While I understand that Maria has a lot going on, what with vampires constantly trying to kill him, unexplained secrets, and such, he basically blackmails Mary into being his bodyguard and treats him so badly. Maria's rude behavior aside, the story is very interesting. A lot of hints are given out to through this volume, and I really have no idea where they could possibly go. But what I'm most curious about is Mary's past. Why is Mary's so different from other vampires? His red hair, his amnesia, the fact he had the ability to walk in sunlight. Hopefully, Maria warms up to Mary, which it looks like he will from little bits here and there. I am so here for the wild and bloody ride these two are about to embark on!
