Horrifying tale

Despite the excellent writing skills of Gary Cartwright, and he is a very accomplished writer, the story of huge wealth, debauchery, drugs and the callous disregard for human life, is staggeringly horrifying. I blanched at the way that being the possessor of untold millions can cause a person to be completely outside the law and to obviously feel that they can do or say anything they please because they have the wealth to hire the best lawyers in the land to manipulate the facts to give their clients virtual immunity from the laws which govern the ordinary person. The 12 year old step daughter of one of Texas's wealthiest citizens is brutally murdered and his estranged wife and her lover are shot...the lover is killed but the wife survives and, despite the shooter being identified as T Cullen Davis by his wife and several witnesses, he is eventually freed through the work of his equally famous lawyer. By the end of the book, I was so sick of the sleazy people involved that I felt that I needed a shower to wash away the grime. There's no doubt at all that the rich ARE different!

T. CULLEN DAVIS

Gary Cartwright is a one of the best authors in Texas, he really understands the state and he has honed his skills for Texas Monthly for years, I love his writings and this is his best. The Cullen Davis trial was a sensation in the 70's and 80's it had everything that makes a great Texas story..oil money, gold digging trailer trash, breast implants, alleged bribery, you name it, it had it. I suppose we will never know if Cullen really commited this henious crime, and Pricilla is dead so nobody really talks about it anymore and Cullen has found Jesus..lord help us...but this book gives you all the details so you can judge for yourself..was justice served?..all i can say is i dont want to be standing too close to Mr. Davis on judgement day..

Outstanding Book!

This was a very good book on the T. Cullen Davis murder trials.Davis was accused of killing his step daughter and the boyfriendof his estranged wife Priscilla. Cullen Davis was a multiwealthyoil field person. After being arrested thw trial was granted a change of venue to Amarillo. Here the scene was taken over by legendary trial lawyer Racehorse Haynes. Haynes proceeded to win an acquittal for T. Cullen Davis. This was noted as being a spectacular trial Davis was again arrested for conspiracy to commit murder once again on his estranged wife and a presiding judge. Davis was put on trial twice before being acquitted.Thisbook gives excellent detail on these outrageous action that occured in Texas. This book is hard to put down. You will enjoy it.

Wealth, suspense, and money buys justice

A very interesting story of Cullen Davis, a multimillionaire, who runs several corporations in Ft. Worth. After years of an expensive and bitter divorce, a gunmen enters her mansion, kills and maims. The trial, evidence and defense strategy was intruiging and suspenseful. It is also the beginning of this true story. Don't want to ruin it, so take a read. I highly recomment this book.
