With an army gathering beyond Ashwood's borders, Lazarus Cross is fortifying Crimson Keep for siege. The new wall is nearly finished, and the hidden tunnels beneath Blackwood Manse promise a safe route for supplies. Flesh-eating ghouls have claimed the passages, and signs of recent intruders suggest the route is no longer secret.
Rowan Wildwood is the Ashwood's best tracker, though she prefers to do her hunting beneath an open sky. The haunted tunnels below Crimson Keep give her plenty of reasons to stay in the forest. But when Lazarus nearly dies in the crypts, the stubborn ranger discovers that the druidic power she has spent years denying may be the only thing that can save him. Denying what she wants from Lazarus is becoming just as difficult.
When spies inside Crimson Keep reveal the duchess's plan to invade from below, Lazarus and Rowan take the hunt into the dark. What they find could doom the keep-or give the betrayed king an alliance older than the gods. To claim it, Rowan will have to embrace the goddess who chose her-and finally decide how close she's willing to let Lazarus get.
Long live the king. The hunt has begun.
