Book Overview

Chief Boiler Technician Phillip Keith is just three weeks short of his much-anticipated retirement. Spoiled by his post with a modern class cruiser, Keith is counting on an easy voyage to the United States from the Philippines. When fate intervenes, he is reassigned to an old World War II destroyer, the USS Biscay, to ensure its safe return to the States.

As he boards the vintage destroyer, alarms sound in Keith's head, alerting him that something is amiss. His instincts are right: the captain asks him to secure proof that the ship is being used to smuggle drugs. Keith and Kris Palmer, a woman with whom Keith shares an undeniable chemistry, set out to uncover the smuggling operation.

Unfortunately for the pair, the drug ring leader vows to stop at nothing, even murder, to get his cache stateside.

As Keith, Kris, and the smugglers' paths intersect, a violent storm sends them plummeting into the cold dark waters of the Pacific. Not even the ship's mascot, a loyal beagle, can save them now.

This action-packed novel with a compelling spiritual message about courage, faith, and destiny will both entertain and inspire.

Black Oil Chief - USN

It's hard for me to review a book, any book. What is interesting to me may not be interesting to someone else. I use a very simple method of review. I either liked it , or I did not. If I flipped through the pages like watching a movie, then I liked it. If it was a laborious read & I kept drifting off into a daydream, then it was a crummy book. This book was an easy two session read, more like watching a good movie from the 50s. I like to walk away from a novel feeling entertained and slightly educated. LOL-guess that's why I like the History Channel so much. This book did that, it was interesting, entertaining, and had an interwoven spiritual message that I personally appreciated. It was not "in your face" religion, but rather a few characters that lived their Christian beliefs in a most unusual setting. Not a bad thing IMHO. I'll read his next book, and pass this copy on to my grandchildren. Gene

Black Oil Chief

As an old destroyer sailor I found Black Oil Chief to be an excellent read. I do feel, however that the author could have used a little less verbiage in describing the operaion of fire rooms. Other than that one area, Black Oil Chief is a terffic book, one that is sure to make any tincan sailor long to return to sea on a Navy grayhound. Art Giberson CPO USN Ret
