Book Overview

The first in exciting urban fantasy series about a fledgling voodoo priestess who gets caught up in murderous intrigue.

Kallie Rivi re, a fiery Cajun hoodoo apprentice with a talent for trouble, finds herself smack-dab in the middle of one of those times her mentor warned her about when she visits New Orleans to attend the Hecatean Alliance's annual carnival: her hard-bodied conjurer hookup ends up dead in her blood-drenched bed. And he was killed by something that Kallie would never dream of touching--the darkest of dark juju, soul-eating juju--a black dust hex that may have been meant to kill her.

Now Kallie has to use every bit of hoodoo knowledge and bayou-bred mojo she possesses to clear her own name and find the killer--even as that dark sorcerer hunts Kallie and her friends. But Kallie's search for the truth soon leads her in a direction she never anticipated--back home to Bayou Cypr s Noir, and to Gabrielle LaRue, Kallie's aunt, protector, and hoodoo mentor...who is looking more and more like she just might be the one who wants Kallie dead.

Fantastic new series!

This book was sooo much fun to read, another awesome series that Im now completely addicted to from Adrian Phoenix! I loved falling into this world of hoodoo with all its textures & scents, dialects & attitudes, spells & hexes and just fantastic possibilities. Each character introduced in this series was just so vividly portrayed that you cant help but get wrapped in this mysterious and magical story that starts with terrible death and ends in a cliffhanger, for true.

Can't wait!

I loved this book! The feel of the characters was great, loved the way the story flows. It was very hard not to read the book in one sitting. I can't wait for the next book!!!

Awesome new series!!

Black Dust Mambo is the first novel by Adrian Phoenix that I read and I have liked it so much that I have begun reading her previous series The Maker's Song. It is very well written and full of action, twists, mistery and paranormal phenomena as well as humour. The same must be said about the characters: Kelly, the protagonist and heroine, is just amazing as well as the rest of them. A must read without any doubt! I hope that the sequel in this new series is written as soon as possible, PLEASE!!

Great new series by Adrian Phoenix

Black Dust Mambo is the first in the new Hoodoo series by Adrian Phoenix. I got this book because I really enjoy The Maker's Song series by her. I was most definitely not disappointed. Within the first few pages I was wrapped up in Kallie's world and story and can't wait for the next in the series! Kallie is attending a festival held by the Hecatean Alliance with her best friend Belladonna when things start to go wrong. After waking up and finding a lover of hers more than just dead, Kallie begins an exciting non stop adventure to discover exactly what happened. Along the way she meets new people some of which are nice and want to help her while others would rather she just go away. I enjoyed getting to know Kallie and the other characters in Black Dust Mambo. The majority of the book is very fast paced and filled with several interesting characters that I look forward to reading more about, especially Belladonna, Layne and McKenna. The ending leaves off with what is sure to be the beginning of the next great book in this amazing new series.

4.5 Stars - Terrific new urban fantasy series!

Black Dust Mambo kept a fast pace with action packed scenes, a few that were very intense, that included bits of snaky humor. It encompassed the stereotypical Cancun people speak along with the traditional superstitions of voodoo/hoodoo conjuring and practices, which are two of the reasons that I really enjoyed this book. Adrian Phoenix made these stereotypes work for this book in the form of making more authentic and turned it into an intense, fun, sit-on-the-edge of your seat story. Kallie kept me laughing and cheering her on with her boisterous personality and the intense scenes surrounding plot gave me a very real feel for those in danger. Oh, and there is a very sexy nomad with blond dreads that I have a particular fondness for named Layne. Can't wait to read more about him. I found Black Dust Mambo to be written in a different style from Adrian Phoenix's Maker Song series. The world building didn't seem as complex, which made this story move at an easy fast clip. I'm definitely going to pickup the next book in this series.
