Book Overview

Gullah is both the name of a people and the name of the language these people speak. This language obtained Creole status during the mid 1700s and was learned and used by the second generation of African Americans as their mother tongue.Gulluh Fuh Oonuh is an alphabetical collection of Gullah words and phrases and offers tips on pronunciation. The guide is a valuable tool for students and researchers wanting to learn more about the Gullah language.

Good resource

This is great because the author gives the receipt in the Gullah language and then it is translated into English. Cooking is at the heart of human relationships and community regardless of culture. My ancestors and your ancestors gathered around a pot or two and shared experiences and wisdom. Such a resource as this calls that fundamental activity into focus once again.

Gullah Receipts

Having been born and bred in Charleston, South Carolina, I grew up with these receipts,as well as the Gullah dialect. Perusing the cookbook brought back many, long forgotten memories. A wonderful experience.
