wonderful story

I would recommend this book to anyone. You have 3 lovely ladies each going to reach the age of 50 in one year. They have been friends since childhood but don't keep in touch regularly. As children, they would put their individual birthday wishes in a bottle and come back the following year to see if they came true. Well, facing a midlife crisis, one contacts the other 2 women and they get together for lunch. Only this time instead of seeing if their birthday wishes come true, they make a pact to make it happen. And, going to great lengths to see that they do come true! With some secrets and surprises along the way, you will find this book highly entertaining and thoroughly enjoying!

Jean Stone is back to her old self!

After Ms. Stone's disappointing previous book, PLACES BY THE SEA, I was so happy that she is back to her old style again! As in her previous works, Ms. Stone uses the friendship between 3 women as the basis of this book, starting when the girls were 10 years old, up to the present time. I love Ms. Stone's manner of dialogue. This book is very easy to read and keeps your interest.

A good work of contemporary Fiction

Every year the three friends shared the same exclusive birthday party. At the end of each party, the three girls would write down their fondest wishes, place them in a bottle, and see if they came true at next year's party. The trio vowed to remain friends for life., but forever lasted till they turned sixteen and tragedy struck. Thirty -two years later, Abigail, Kris, and Maddy have lost touch with one another as all three accomplished an extraordinary amount in their professional lives, but not one of them knows personal fullfillment. Kris is a best selling author of spy novels. Maddy is a photographer at one of the top magazines in the world. Abigail runs one of the largest television businesses in the nation. Still they are not at peace with themselves. The trio reunite for the first time in several years on the occasion of their forty-eighth birthday. It is their reunion that helps each one of them reach reach inside themseves to find the strength to reach out one more time and try to mke their dreams come true. BIRTHDAY GIRLS is a powerful work of mainstream fiction that captures the soul of three dynamic women who seem to have it all but actually have nothing. Jean Stone brilliantly describes their pain, sorrow, and anguish , allowing the audience to see the spiritual wasteland hiding behind the facade of success. Ms. Stone demonstrates that all women have an inherent strength to surmount the demons of the past in order to forge a better future. This uplifting tale spells out that second chances are always possible for those willing to take the risk. Harriet Klausner
