In this Western story John Valance is traveling across the territories on his way to Oregon, when he is found by a Sioux squaw named Kimimela, who has escaped from a group that is taking her to sell as a slave. The two form a bond together, meet others along the way who become part of the group, while facing numerous obstacles before reaching the newly recognized state of Oregon in 1859.
In a dime store novella style they face slavers, hired gunmen, and unscrupulous villains, while creating a legacy that inspires others, as well as themselves to believe they can overcome all odds together. Joined by a variety of friends and allies, becoming a family that transcends their diverse differences, they invest into to a future together during a time of change for the country.
The story of the Valances is one of facing fear and finding courage, conquering loneliness and heartbreak by discovering true love in unlikely surroundings, along with how important one event can be in shaping our lives. It tells about a trying to do the right thing for the right reasons, how someone can become a hero if they rise to the occasion, and hopefully this will inspire others in the same regards.
