Big Bob's Boys: Holly Tilman

By Perry Comer

A stranger dying in a creek bed. A debt that follows two brothers across two countries.

When Gerry Croft pulls a half-drowned drifter out of a South Texas creek bed, he has no way of knowing the cost of that single act of decency. The young man calls himself Holly Tilman, thin, fast with a gun, and running from something he won't name. By the time the Croft brothers learn what Holly Tilman really is, the debt is already written in blood.

A bullet in Robert's chest on an empty road outside Laredo. A year of vanishing trails across the Mexican borderland, missions, flash floods, bandit ambushes, and towns where the answer is always he was here, and now he's gone. A Texas Ranger who isn't sure whether the Croft brothers are hunting a killer or riding with one. And a second Tilman, an innocent man with a fianc e and a livery job in San Antonio, dragged into his brother's violence by blood alone.

Holly Tilman is the third novel in the Croft Brothers series, a story about the arithmetic of vengeance: what a man owes for a debt he never asked to collect, and what it costs to finally collect it. Written in the spare, unflinching voice of classic American westerns, this is a story of brush country and river crossings, of a ranch that keeps drawing its people back home no matter how far the chase carries them, and of two brothers who learn that some men can only be answered with the same violence they deal out.

The debt comes due at a river crossing in the cold heart of a Coahuila winter. Not everyone rides away from it.
