Foundaitional framework for biblical social engagement from a former Gordon-Conwell professor

Mott's Biblical Ethics and Social Change is still foundational after 20+ years. Rather than sounding off about particular social/political issues (as per Sider or Wallis), Mott provides a "Biblical Theology of Social Involvement" and then charts out the beginnings of "Paths to Justice" (see table of contents). Anyone with a high view of Christian Scripture will appreciate Mott's engagement of biblical texts. He is particularly adept at relating them to strands in Christian thought that hamstring efforts for social justice. Some of the progressive priorities that emerge in Mott's work may challenge some readers, but his biblical orientation is evident. He adds to this a balanced practical exploration of stronger methods of social involvement (such as civil disobedience and armed resistance), which is a welcome supplement in preparing novice reformers for the activity of social engagement.
