This story set in late 16th century France and Canada. It follows Jean, a young peasant, as he escapes the narrowness and stifling culture of his French village. He boards a ship sailing to the New World but his hopes and plans drastically change when he is abandoned on a shore of the Canadian coast. To survive in the Canadian wilderness, Jean became a violent man, from which he carried scars on his flesh and in his soul. Survival meant more than just escaping the walls of his village in France. Turns out, there are all kinds of walls.
