Paddlefoot, Lila and their children, Rupert and Jemima, live an idyllic life on a quiet stretch of the river. Small fish dart in the shallows, ducks rest on the water, and the scents of wildflowers drift across the meadows. Life could not be more peaceful for the otter family.

Then their world is suddenly disrupted. Their perfect life on the river is overturned and, along with the water rats, hedgehogs, badgers and rabbits, they are forced to leave.

A long and treacherous journey begins, and Paddlefoot and Lila are separated from each other and from their children.
Danger rises beyond the riverbank. Paddlefoot and Lila push on through the wild unknown, holding on to hope that Rupert and Jemima will be found safely and that their family will be reunited again.
