Best Investment book

This is one of the best books on investment - especially portfolio management - that I have read. It is a pity that it is now out of print: an updated version would be great. But still very useable.

A nearly complete practical guide to index investing

The book treats all the important topics that a thoughtful person must consider in evaluating an important investment. You can see that Mr. Merrill worked hard to place a handle on the risk factor which has so many facets. The result is not totally satisfying but I can't think of an alternative in simple terms. Using this risk parameter allowed him to quantify his comparison portfolios and give meaning to the study. I particularly liked the presentation of performance of different classes over the past 25 years. These are eye opening and necessary. I'm an engineer and overly critical so maybe it should be five stars.
