Today, on average, women are more highly educated than men. Yet this educational success is not enough to close the gaps in the workplace: employment, pay, working hours, career advancement... inequalities persist. At the heart of this paradox lies a pivotal moment: parenthood. What happens when parental leave ends without a childcare solution? When returning to work costs more than staying home? When parental leave is intended to be a shared right but is still taken primarily by mothers?Drawing on data from the OECD and Eurydice covering 27 European countries, this study analyzes three key factors: parental leave, early childhood care, and taxation. The results show that family policies can reduce workplace disparities, but only when they are designed in a coherent manner.Because equality cannot be decreed. It is built through the time granted to parents, the availability of childcare spots, and the conditions that allow people to work without having to choose between career and family.
