I have really enjoyed reading this book. It is one of the better books I have read in quite a long time. Unlike other stress books that focus only on stress reduction techniques, Dr. Flannery discusses the cultural aspects of American society that cause stress. What I gather from this book is that the main cause of the stress problems that we have today is the ultra fast paced lifestyle that we lead. Dr. Flannery points out ways that "stress-resistant" people live their lives to reduce stress. Although he does not preach religion in this book, I feel that many of the things he teaches coincide with religious truth. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I found much in this book to be in harmony with Christ's teachings. Primarily how we should treat other people. He also finds that people who have a spiritual center are more stress resistant. It's not a book about religion; he is just pointing out his findings. Dr. Flannery also points out that people need "meaningful relationships" in their lives to be happy and that our society is having a problem encouraging quality relationships with others. I hope this helps.
