Battling Human Papillomavirus: A Beginners Guide To HPV: Diagnosis, Treatment, Coping & Living Well

Human papillomavirus is an abbreviation for this threat. These viruses attack human skin and mucous membranes. When it comes to STIs, HPV is by far the most widespread. Over 200 varieties of HPV have been identified, and some of them are dangerous to human health.
In terms of potential cancer risk, HPV is often divided into two categories:
- Warts on the skin (common warts), genital warts, and warts in the throat or mouth are all caused by low-risk HPV. In most cases, they do not cause cancer.
- Cancer can be caused by certain forms of high-risk HPV. The cervix, anus, penis, vulva, vagina, and throat are just few of the places these tumors can manifest. Particular forms of high-risk HPV are closely linked to the development of cervical cancer.
- Vaginal, anal, and oral intercourse are the most common routes of transmission for HPV. Close touch with the skin is another route of transmission. Many people who have HPV may never know it because the virus often goes undetected and can be eliminated from the body with no ill effects. But in some people, a long-term infection with high-risk HPV strains can eventually cause cancer.
- To protect against some of the most frequent cancer-causing HPV types, vaccination is suggested for both males and females as a preventative step against HPV.
Cervical cancer is one of several HPV-related health problems that can be detected and treated with routine screenings including Pap smears and HPV testing. Even though condom use can cut down on the spread of HPV, it may not eliminate it entirely because the virus can infect places that aren't sealed off by the device.
If you have any questions about HPV, how to protect yourself from getting it, or any health issues you may be experiencing as a result of having HPV, please talk to your doctor.
