Best Yet in the Series

BATTLESPACE(2006) is the second book of THE LEGACY TRILOGY. This trilogy is itself a follow-on to THE HERITAGE TRILOGY(1998-2001). This trilogy covers the exploits of space-faring Marines from the 22nd century, who fight strange aliens in remote locations in nearby star systems. This book offered a good pace, with few dull moments. There is always a sense of mystery surrounding the ultimate enemy in the series - "The Hunters of the Dawn", who actually first show up in force in this story... but still only play a background part in this book. While many of the characters are still poorly developed (especially the higher-ranking officers), there is continued improvement in this area over the first 3 books in the overall series. I found the book very entertaining, and a quick read... I give it 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5. Oh, and the cover is the best yet, too... even though it doesn't actually depict a actual scene from the story (they never fought the enemy on an actual planet, but within the remote Stargate space structure).

part of an excellent series

I've read all of this series and the previous "heritage" series and I find them all to be excellent... the author does tend to repeat background stories and references more often than is needed... (If he explaines Doolittles raid one more time, I'm going to scream)and his story lines build to a climax that then drops off a cliff that can leave you feeling a bit... cheated... that there aren't at least another few pages of epilogue... but with those two exceptions. These are ALL well done military sci-fi, especially if you like tood infrantry battle descriptions or just a fan of Marine Sci-Fi.

GREAT, must be seen in context.

You can not easily judge any of the books of the 2 trilogies by themselves, they have to be seen in context, since they really are meant to be part of the bigger story spanning (for now) 6 books. I am rating all 6 books that happen in this universe with 5 stars for addictive and fun writing style and the technology that makes part of everything but is not the lone focus. I actually started reading the legacy trology and then went back and read the heritage trilogy afterwards, does not take any of the fun out. Really enjoyed it. Fun, fun, fun!

Not quite as good as the first 3 but still great

Its still an awesome series but theres one thing thats just stupid and thats the whole marrage thing they'll bring up once in a while with the characters such as "Oh he has 4 husbands and a wife waiting for him back home" on and on with that its just retarded right up to reading how theres a whole comity of people married to each other like a corperation of marrage. Its not over done but it annoyed me how some Marine charcters were cool with sharing their wive with other 'husbands'. Stuff like that doesn't really shouldn't have any association with the Corps in my opinion but the series is still great.
