Highly acclaimed, award winning author Donald Davis wants us all to remember and share our family stories. Among other tall tales, he writes about how his uncle hung onto the multitudinous Democratic votes of the Ratherton clan while at the very same time keeping them from shooting Davis' squirrels in a lean year; how he got Phyleete, wife Jolly, their eleven sub-natural sons and...

Barking At a Fox Fur Coat Reveiw

Barking at a Fox Fur Coat By Donald Davis Barking at a Fox Fur Coat is a hysterical book of short stories about Iron Duff and Uncle Frank. Uncle frank is a character that has extreme skills in trickery. The Jollys are a family that lives on Uncle Franks farm. They are a hysterical family that Uncle Frank tricks and helps them. My favorite of these tall tales is Uncle Frank and the Crown feed boys which is a tale about when some sales men come to Uncle Frank's farm to try to sell him a new type of feed. I like this book because I am like Uncle Frank waiting to see what happens and tricking people into giving me things. I have herd a lot of stories and I think this book has some of the best stories that I have read or heard of. I definitely recommend this book to any body who likes short stories that are amazingly funny.

Mountain Story Lover

I grew up on a farm in the mountains of NC. We were a selfsustained family, living almost entirely on the products we grew and harvested. We had no television or telephone. Our entertainment was listening to the radio, and time was limited there because it operated on a battery and my Dad wanted the power conserved for news and important things to him. So, we spent a lot of time listening to stories that had been handed down from our elders. I can remember thinking I just could not wait to see how a story ended. Barking at a Fox Fur Coat is a collection of just such stories. Very entertaining and hillariously funny.

Painfully funny!!

This is a fabulous collection of stories told by Donald Davis about some strange happenings of an extended family and some interesting families in this small town. I particularly liked the stories about the Jolly boys. 11 "subnormal" brothers who run into some stange, and funny, problems because,a:Their parents didn't name them so they aquired some weird names in some weird ways.B:and all of these "subnormal" Jolly boys only look at the ground when they walk, as though they are afraid it will go away if they look up, and that leads to some weird mishaps. Also another couple of stories are about this boy and his pets, first a fish out of water, and then a huge cat with nine lives. Read it, you may die laughing but you'll die happy.
