Very helpful

I think this commentaty is easy to read and very helpful in understanding the scripture. Some comemtaries and study bibles have a lot of topical articles and charts. Baker's commentary sticks with the basics with introductory articles and commentary notes for each book. It also seems theologically balanced to me.

Just what I was looking for

I bought Zondervan's "Understand the Bible" NIV commentary a while back and found it to be cumbersome and entirely too scholarly. I purchased a copy of the Baker Bible Commentary for my teenage daughter, because it was written in more of an "every day" vernacular, and liked it so much that I bought one for myself. This volume gives you the historical background of events in the Bible, along with a verse-by-verse commentary, yet you won't be crossing your eyes as you try to lumber through it. I've found it to be perfect for my own private Bible study, and also for my role as a small group Bible study leader.
