Book Overview

Set in a near-future metropolis, Ascend tells the dark, intriguing and seductive story of three banished angels waging an epic war on Earth. Sebastian, Gideon, and Seraphine are exiled from Heaven and forced to live among mortals. The three angels soon separate and seek a new path to return them home. Still bound by their angelic instincts, the three find they are still drawn to humans about to ascend. Longing to become human, Sebastian rejects his former existence, and falls in love with a mortal, Rebeka. Fascinated by his newfound power over mortals, Gideon soon shows an aptitude for taking human souls and finds himself ruler of a new army, poised to storm the gates of their former empire. Seraphine struggles to live amongst humans and foresees that her fate is linked to her fallen siblings. As Gideon's powers grow, Sebastian and Seraphine realize they must deny their new life and confront their brother, fuelling an epic struggle that threatens to destroy the universe.

A superbly written and original story set in a post-apocalyptic heaven

"Ascend" by Keith Arem is the story of Sebastian, a young man who is tragically killed, only to find himself a reluctant draftee in the Purgatory Wars where he is reunited with his deceased brother Gideon -- who has become the most powerful angel in the Legions of heaven and plans to lead a coup to regain their family's power. Realizing he holds the key to ending this war in Heaven, Sebastian must face his brother before Gideon destroys the cycle of life on Earth. A superbly written and original story set in a post-apocalyptic heaven where Angles battle over 'harvested' human souls in the Purgatory Wars, "Ascend: Special Edition is also available in a hard cover edition (1600101380, $75.00), "Ascend: Special Edition" is a strongly recommended addition to personal and community library graphic novel collections and action/adventure fantasy reading lists.

The new 2008 200-page hardback release of "Ascend: Special Edition" features 70 added pages, re-master artwork, and a completely re-written story taking the reader further into a post-apocalyptic the Purgatory Wars. With all-new dialog, the Special Edition further explores several story elements. There is also an added opening prologue that introduces the main character as he is harvested into the Purgatory Wars. All art panels were re-mastered, with additional art panels added along with new border and text effects .Included are original story and research notes along with a full leather cover and an increased size to 9"x13".
