Artemis Journal 2026

By Nikki Giovanni and Arthur Sze

Founded in 1977, Artemis Journal, an award-winning literary and visual arts publication-celebrates its 50th anniversary.

Bathed in moonlight, a single spark ignited the idea that creativity can transform misery into beauty.

A love for the written word blossomed among artists and poets, visionaries weaving a more radiant world. Like a fine French Bordeaux maturing with age, Artemis has evolved into a vessel of inspiration and connection, a chalice for our highest aspirations and cultural ideals.

Named for the Greek goddess of the moon, wilderness, light, and protection, the journal has spent five decades "illuminating darkness" with poetry, prose, and art, empowering survivors of domestic violence, amplifying Appalachian voices, and nurturing the next generation of poets.

"Fall in Love (For Artemis) If you have to fall in love, And you do, It should be with a book." Nikki Giovanni
