'ARRR' Journal Pray Like a Pirate: An Adventure before the Blessed Sacrament

Bring this little journal to Adoration and use it to enter into conversational and relational prayer with each member of the Blessed Trinity. This is based on "ARRR" Relational Prayer taught at the Institute for Priestly Formation ( A cknowledge, R elate, R eceive, R espond). Commonly known as how to "Praying like a Pirate", this journal utilizes a patent-pending ARRR Journal Page page design to assist the user in entering into a conversation with the Lord - one where we can and should EXPECT to hear the Lord speak to us . The journal page was developed through a picture the author "received" from the Lord during her own ARRR prayer when she was "relating" to the Lord the desire to share ARRR with others, especially younger people. This work seeks to support the faithful in a great quest as explained in the Catechism of the Catholic Church (#2075): "Meditation is above all a quest. The mind seeks to understand the why and how of the Christian life, in order to adhere and respond to what the Lord is asking. The required attentiveness is difficult to sustain. We are usually helped by....the Sacred Scriptures, particularly the Gospels, holy icons, liturgical texts..., writings of the spiritual fathers, works of spirituality, the great book of creation, and that of history the page on which the "today" of God is written. " Accordingly, this book provides Scriptures, traditional sacred art from history as well as several works used with the permission of a beloved friend, mentor and sacred artist of our times, Ruth A. Stricklin of New Jerusalem studios. Ruth's encouragement and support gave the author the courage to continue this quest of self-publication when the task felt insurmountable. The idea of a journal using ARRR was originally conceived when the author organized a weekly summer "Holy Hour of Power" for young people at her parish in the Diocese of Phoenix. (Mothers in Phoenix desperately seek indoor activities with air conditioning in the summer). The Holy Hour of Power included a guided reflection for all ages using ARRR, a time of silence, praying a single decade of the Rosary, three Fatima prayers and singing worship songs. When the pandemic brought this to an end, the idea for a journal that would aid parents in taking their family to Adoration was planted by the Divine Sower. The author had to ACKNOWLEDGE her fears and failures about this endeavor. She RELATED them to the LORD and RECEIVED His encouragement to continue despite obstacles. And so, this little book is a first attempt to RESPOND with love and gratitude to the Lord. May He bring to completion this good work that He began. And, may the author respond to Him in Love, with more expediency in the future so that we can create additional aesthetics that appeal to a larger number of the faithful from 3 to 103. In the meantime, she prays this book is a blessing to you and leads you deeper into a relationship with the Blessed Trinity.
