Dear Vicki,I finally finished reading your book, Apples & Chalkdust. The book was given to me by my daughter, Christina Caruana Cary, as an early Father's Day gift. Seeing my last name in a book was an interesting experience in itself, but the subject matter really motivated me even more. You see, I am a retired high school teacher of 31 years. Much of what I read in Apples & Chalkdust advances the teaching profession. The author's experience and examples gives us a higher level of understanding of what it means to be a teacher. Her positive suggestions and relevant quotations show much insight into the meaning of being in the center of life's most important job, the passing on of Man's achievements to future generations. Inspirational!

I bought this book as a gift for the preschool teacher who works with my son. I just received the book and had to read it. It was sweet, touching, and motivational. They were simple two page stories. The anecdote for the stories set the tone nicely. These pages had pearls of wisdom. I have decided to keep the book because I am a teacher too. I am sure this will come in handy towards the middle of the year. I guess I have to buy another one! If you need a book for a quick pick me up, this is the one!

Inspirational!

As an educator, I enjoyed the stories in this book. There was a quote for each two page entry which prepared me for the story to come. I could relate to every story, whether it was something that I had experienced or heard about. Teachers often get caught up in the discussion in the lunchroom. This book will remind you to stay away and think positive. This book reminded me why I decided to become a teacher. Just like many other teachers, I am at school or doing schoolwork all hours of the day and night. The stories in this book touched my heart and reminded me that all that work is worth it!!

I received this as a gift from one of my students. It's full of wonderfully interesting and uplifting stories. It made for some very encouraging reading at the tail end of my planning before the kids came back in and when I just needed a little pick-me-up.

The author in a concise, humorous, and straight-forward manner relates "chicken soup"-style teacher stories that are lessons for every teacher--new and experienced. After 30 years in teaching, I must say that I have experienced most of the lessons about which Ms. Carvana writes. It is a fast read, yet a guide that each teacher should have on his or her desk to refer to often. It was truly inspirational and enjoyable!
