Anna How to tear down the Iron Curtain

This story, based on real events, provides us with an image adjusted to a historical moment - the mid-twentieth century - in which the world, in general, and Europe in particular, were divided into two large ideological blocs, as a result of the end of the S.G.M.

Through the experiences lived by Anna, - a young woman born in a country behind the Iron Curtain (Czechoslovakia) - and due to a series of circumstances beyond her control, she was a direct witness to some historical events that astonished the world: the crushing of the Prague Spring (1968) at the hands of the tanks of the USSR and its subsequent political repression; the machine-gunning of those who tried to flee across the Danube to a better world, as it passed through Bratislava. He decided to emigrate to a country like Libya, then ruled by Colonel Gaddafi; there he witnessed the bombing of Tripoli by US and UK planes in April 1986. It had to be there, in Libya, where he found love.

From his adopted country, Holland, he experienced the end of communism in his native country, Czechoslovakia, in the so-called Velvet Revolution; he witnessed the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the subsequent split into two of his country (the Czech Republic and Slovakia), in a peaceful and exemplary way in 1993.

Anna's destiny was marked from the cradle. She was a woman, born in a communist country where Catholics like her were persecuted. He was behind the Iron Curtain. She had everything against her, including her desperate and unfulfilled desire to be a mother. And when everything seemed to indicate that nothing could go worse, their divorce arrives after fifteen years of marriage.

And it is then, at the age of thirty-four, just when he hits rock bottom and nothing can be worse, when he decides to emigrate to another country. And that changed his life forever.

Its history is also a review of customs, a way of life and social customs of an era, of a country that no longer exists and although there are still some embers of the years of Communism, the Republic of the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic have been part of the European Union since January 1, 2004.

But, above all, it is the story of a woman who never gave up. Only in this way did he have the opportunity to escape his own fate.
