A must - read

I truly loved this book. There's never been a book that I could enjoy as much as this one. Honestly, this book made me smile at times - I'm serious. It made me happy. It kept me in suspense till the bitter end. The author knows how to scare a reader into believing the worst could occur, but I loved how it turned out. The plot was very believable. It was shocking how much a girl couldn't do otherwise it'd be considered scandalous. I really loved the main characters, Ewan and Anna. Their relationship was so sweet and amazing. I loved this book. This was the first book that made me really want to read till the end. Even other good books have bored me at some parts, but this read was worth missing TV for!

Anna and the Duke

The year is 1818. Ewan MacLaughlin finds out that his father, the Duke of Brahm, has died and made Ewan his heir. The news comes as a big suprise to Ewan since his father had deserted Ewan and his mother so long ago. Though Ewan already has his title of being the Earl of Keir, he journeys to England to settle his acquired estates. In England he faces both hate and love. His half brother, Richard, is bitterly upset for he had expected to become the next duke. But in the company of Richard's fiance, Anna Welsley, Ewan finds himself falling in love. Anna herself is drawn towards the handsome half English/Scottish Ewan for she is facing a form of dissatisfaction in the arrangement marriage with Richard. But the plot thickens when it becomes clear that Richard is conspiring against Ewan. Will Anna and Ewan stop him before it's too late? The third book of the series, "Anna and the Duke" is an Avon True Romance for teenage girls. And even though this book is first and foremost a romance novel, there is plenty of intrigue, humor, and excitement to entertain a variety of teens. The only Avon True Romance for teens that I read is so far "Victoria and the Rogue". In that book the story had been told in the view of the main character Victoria, who was a young, naive, and a bit haughty young woman. In "Anna and the Duke", I was given a totally different type of young lady. Anna Welsley was in a way more ladylike and had a shy temperament. But in no way she can be thought of as a boring, 'perfect' girl which plagues many romance novels of late. Anna has her faults but is strong and brave enough to fight for her loved one. Her loved one is Ewan MacLaughlin who is perfectly charming! I loved his background of being Scottish which is pretty cool.If all the other Avon True Romance novels for teens are anything like "Anna and the Duke", I'm definitely picking up another in the series!

A Dashing Tale

I was wary at first to read the books in this series, coming from Avon. When you think of the typical romance novels that they produce, you usually come across ninny girls who want to have sex with a big buff guy. End of story. So not the case with Anna and the Duke. Anna and Ewan actually have more dimensions to themselves than just their sex drive. Although they're not setting out to fall for one another, they follow their hearts to be together. There is also another underlying plot here, which is what makes the book succeed. It's really a good, suspensful novel that includes romance, it doesn't just center on that. I love that the characters have different facets to them that make them real, like abandonedment issues, being forced to do things by your parents. This book is definately a 110% book!

Great historical novel

Everyone should think Anna Welsley would be satisfied in the position she is in. She is set to inherit all her father's riches and after a glittering performance she is set to marry the Duke Richard Fitzgerald. Anna, of course, is not content. She finds herself having doubts about her feeling for Richard, if she even has any. While her mother plans furiously for her wedding Anna can do nothing but read poems and wait for an arranged marriage. The Duke Richard is set to inherit everything upon his father's death. However when the Lord Fitzgerald is on his deathbed he reveals to Richard that years ago he had had a marriage that produced the true heir to the fortune Ewan McLaughlin, who had been raised in his mother's homeland, Scotland. When Ewan arrives Richard is bitter about his new found half-brother. Anna finds herself falling in love with Ewan but is disturbed for she feels Richard is plotting against Ewan. This was a charming new book set in England!

A charming historical romance for teenage girls.

Eighteen-year-old Anna Welsley should be happy, or at least content. Her position is to secure. She's to inherit a fortune from her father's business, and is engaged to Richard Fitzgerald, the son of a duke. But instead, Anna finds herself dissatisfied, wondering if she even feels anything for Richard. When Lord Fitzgerald dies, Richard expects he will inherit his father's title of Duke of Brahm. But on his deathbed, Richard's father revealed that he had been married before, and that his true heir was Ewan McLaughlin, who had been raised in his mother's homeland, Scotland. Bitter against the father who abandoned him, Ewan reluctantly accepts his inheritance. But Richard, who always thought he would be Duke upon his father's death, is bitter and angry towards his newly discovered half-brother. Anna begins to suspect that Richard is angry enough to plot against Ewan. She decides she must warn Ewan, even if it means betraying Richard, but never expects to fall in love with him. Can Anna and Ewan ever be together, or will Richard take out his vengeance on them both? I highly recommend this sweet love story, set in England in 1818, to teenage girls who enjoy historical romances. It's a really romantic and charming story, and I truly enjoyed the characters.
