Oracle bone writing from the ruins of Yin, Shang Dynasty
Published by Walter KO , 3 years ago
This colorful photo book with illustration was the guide to the exhibit : Ancient Writing from the Ruins of Yin, Special Exhibition of Oracle Bone Inscriptions from the Institute of History and Philology, Academia Sinica. It explained how this ancient writing was accidentally re-discovered by a patient looking for “dragon bone” medicine for his physical relief. The bones were crafted with some unknown characters and the rest was history. This drew attention for digging up the sites for more and the four gentlemen devoted their time and energy in understanding and interpreting and decoding this writing system. They researched the background on the Shang King divinations. Page 47 was a chart on the Shang King Lineage for understanding the relationships. This directly verified and pushed the history to Shang Dynasty. This exhibit and catalog is a good introduction to this oracle bone writing. Readers are encouraged to explore the oracle bone writing on Native American rock art in California and the Southwest of United States.
