Book Purchase

Very happy with the product and the service. The book was perfect. I received the book earlier than estimated. What could be better? Thank you.

very hands-on

We (International business school, University applied science, Netherlands) decided to start a new major and one of the new modules was to be: project management, a 7-weeks' 5 ECTS introduction course. This book (1st edition, but 2nd edition is pretty much the same) is very suitable for this purpose: it offers a very structured approach to PM (based on the US PMI standards). It's straight forward, lots of examples, lots of extra teaching materials, uses an on-going case (for all PM-phases, not like the other books, separate for each). Almost all my students (completely) agreed to: "Is clear and understandable", "Addresses all major aspects of project management", "Is suitable for the course". What makes this book really added value is the instructions book for MS project (it takes students just a couple of hours to get a good introduction); the project simulation from Fissure -really nice, especially as you can run it just in a couple of hours and students still get the feeling they ran the project-. Pity it is no longer included in the 2nd edition. We even had time left to run a small project (create a project plan for a major event). And teachers: don't worry, there is still something left to explain in class like EVM and critical path analysis (which is not dealt with in-depth). Summarised: if you're looking for a hands-on book for your introduction PM course, this is the one!

Excellent PM Foundation Textbook for the classroom

I found this to be an excellent project management foundation textbook. It covers all the areas at a good pace for the PMP exam which is why I use it for project management introductory courses. The PMP Prep courses I have taught for many years tend to have a high dropout rate as the students become overwhelmed with learning the language of the PMBOK. Since using this book in a foundation course the students have been more successful in achieving their PMP goals. Good pace and excellent practical steps. It's a great text for learning the language of project managers and the process's we follow.

Excellent Project Management foundation

It is the best book I've seen as an introduction to project management and the instructor material for the classroom is excellent! Makes for a great foundation book both in and out of a classroom. Exercises at the end of the chapter reinforce learnings and the use of case studies open up the readers abiltiy to practice and apply what they have read. I've used many other books while teaching project management but this is by far the most liked by students. The author has done an excelent job of writing for the novice on the journey to expert. This a both a great textbook for the classroom as well as an easy to read reference book for the casual project manager. As an educator and PMP prep certification course instructor I have seen students gain a solid foundation of the terminology, process groups and knowledge area's they need before taking the next step in preparing to take the PMP exam. An excellent project management foundation book. I use this book in project management courses at three universities/colleges. DMS PMP

Excellent examples, great for PMP exam

This book is much shorter than my best-selling Information Technology Project Management text, now in its 4th edition, but it's still packed with great information. It follows the processes used in the new PMBOK Guide, so it will definitely help you study for the PMP exam. The best thing about this book is that instead of just talking about a lot of the documents and tools you can use when managing a project, it shows you realistic examples of them as applied to a project that is described throughout the book. There are also lots of examples of what went right and wrong based on real projects in various industries and countries, media snapshots to show how PM is used in so many aspects of our lives, cartoons, quick quizzes at the end of each chapter, discussion questions, exercises, and team projects. The companion Web site also provides templates, lots of interactive quizzes, a detailed guide to using Project 2003 or 2003, and lots of other info. Great text for an individual and especially for a general course in project management at the undergrad or graduate level.
