This first installment of the Loyal League Series is off to a fantastic start and definitely having you ready to purchase the next one. Not only was this a well written story with unforgettable characters it was one you expect to enjoy more than once. The heroine Elle Burns, an ex-slave captures you right away with her dedication and sacrifice for the love of her country. As a spy for the Union Army, she goes undercover as an enslaved mute.  Armed with her secret weapon and daily affirmations from the "Art of War", she takes on one of the most dangerous assignment; gathering and feeding information back to the Union Army. Scottish native Malcolm McCall is a detective for Pinkerton Secret Service, one of their best agents, goes undercover as a confederate soldier tasked to infiltrate a Rebel camp. This mission has no room for error and it would be fatal if the slightest mistake is made. When the two set eyes on each other a bond of sorts is formed. With everyone wearing mask during this time, meeting someone new makes it difficult to trust. As fate would have it, they discover they are working toward a common goal and they begin to work as partners with much more at stake. I loved these two together and their story gave this title a mixture of romance, adventure, suspense and historical moments. There is so much more that could be said about this story, however I recommend grabbing a copy and experiencing it for yourself. Beware, once you start reading you won’t be able to do much else.
