I was given this book by a friend who knows the author. It consists of topical articles and is used in political science classes both about US and international politics. A most useful part for me as a layperson is an introductory section that summarizes in a nutshell the basics of US government. Thereafter, very interesting articles follow on diverse topics ranging from the disuniting of America (Arthur Schlesinger)to the impact of the end of the Cold War (Mearsheimer) and 9/11. The book is more than a text because it also doubles as a reference source on such diverse topics as interest groups and parties. It is also well-balanced and includes contributions by liberals, libertarians and conservatices.
