As British troops continue to terrorise Ireland, discontent is brewing.
An ambush at Kilmichael is the first blow against the British Auxiliaries, but not without Irish blood being spilled.
In the weeks leading up to the ambush, a boy named Pat Deasy longs to prove himself a patriot. His brother is leading the local rebel force-Pat can't wait to join him.
After running into trouble with the Black and Tans, his anger is ignited. However, his family insist he is too young to face the dangers of guerrilla warfare.
When even the rebel commander, Tom Barry, refuses to recruit him, he is determined to prove his worth by sneaking out to join their planned ambush.
